The Opposite of Faith

I don’t like snakes. I never watch horror films and motorcycles will always be off limits for me. By definition, one could say that I have a fear of these things. I have sought the Lord about them but since fear begins in our minds the enemy continues to remind me of them. I know full well that I should have faith, that I need not worry about these things. However, the enemy does not give up easily. He begins to question my faith! Faith and fear are opposites. As the Lord was dealing with me regarding this issue I ran across the following acronymn:

False
Evidence
Appearing
Real

Satan frightens us with lies. He also brings up past sins that we have already confessed causing us to feel depressed, unworthy, etc. He tries to convince us that God will not take care of us or that God isn’t there. The enemy induces fear by intimidating us. We find the prophet Elijah in this very predicament. He must have been on a spiritual high after slaying the prophets of Baal and the prayer for rain answered. He had every reason to believe that he had God’s protection. But, Elijah was caught off guard by Jezebel’s threat and was so intimidated by her threat of revenge that he fled (1 Kings 19:3). The threat produced the intended effect, he ran!

Even those of us with great faith often become victims of the spirit of intimidation which leads us directly to depression and frustration. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 We believers continually pray that God remove frustration and release faith.   We need not fear because Christ blood has already paid the penalty for our sins and that same blood covers us. Praise God!
