True Freedom

Freedom.  What does it actually mean?  How does it feel to really be free?  We’ve all heard accounts of what slaves felt like once they were free.  They rejoiced when they were no longer in bondage to slave masters.  We’ve even heard tales of immigrants who celebrated being “free” once they hit U.S. soil.  Although both of these examples of quite moving, neither of them illustrates true freedom.

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed HIm, “if you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone.  How can You say, ‘You will be free’?”  Jesus answered them, Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.  And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.  Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

John 8:31-36

We can only experience, taste, and partake true freedom through a monogamous relationship with Jesus Christ.  We cannot claim salvation and yet creep with the enemy.  We must make a conscious decision to sin no more in order to remain free from the shackles of sin.  We are to follow God wholeheartedly.  This does not mean we will never sin, but when we do, we will repent and long to serve God with everything we have.  When we do not fully follow the Lord, our lives lean toward and are drawn to sin and fall away from God’s plan.

I ran across a powerful and convicting video of a poem a young woman wrote to Satan letting him know that he just lost one.  Yet another soul has been set free.  Praise God and enjoy!

  • Thanks for sharing your comments Elizabeth. After salvation we often forget that we were not always miserable in sin. Some of us were having fun, or what we considered fun. That is what clouded the vision of God's saving grace for many of us. The shackles of sin are really strong. What is the ISBN of the book you're reading?

This really rang in my spirit! I have been pondering--how as the Jews in John 8 declared that they were descendants of Abraham and slaves to no one--how sin is truly bondage. Through the eyes of the slave to sin--it is pleasureable and gives release. Either throug ungodly attitudes, fleshly desires, addictions, etc. The sin that we have become so accustomed to satisfies fleshly desires, how can it be wrong? In this state the slave to the sin does not fully consider the physical, spiritual, and emotional consequences. I have recently read a book entitled, Born A Slave To Sin, and in it the author addressed three key points that I found interesting.

1- We are born sinners, and face everyday decisions in which we choose to live righteously (under the blood of Jesus) or pick our own path.
"We did not choose to be a sinner, we were born with a sinful nature. We don't become a sinner because we sin, we sin because we are a sinner, and we will continue to sin until our nature is changed, and that takes place at the new birth, when we are saved." We are not ignorant of the fact of sin before we are saved.

2- "just to simply confess to the fact of sin is not enough to save." Confession must proceed salvation, but without repentance there is no forgiveness." Scripture says, I tell you, Nay; but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." Luke 13:3,5 "Or shall I continue to sin that grace may abound?"

3-"Most folk look upon themselves as being pretty good. They are honest, hard working, pay their debts and supply a good home for their family. They go to church, are in the local PTA, and even give to charities." The question is raised how can I have a wicked heart--simple, you were born with it. Thank God for the Blood of Jesus.

And even Christians, who have been washed in the blood of Jesus, have a clear guide book (Bible) on rights, wrongs, do's and don'ts. A surefire question when in doubt is--Would Jesus do it and Will it bring honor and glory to Christ. "As a Christian, I could never get off my knees in prayer and walk out on the dance floor and rub all over another person and ask God to bless us while we dance...
It is imperative that as Christians we walk our talk.

In the end, we all have eternal life after death. However, where we go when we die is up to us. Which will it be--Heaven or Hell.

I thank you for the opportunity to share my coments. This article really stirred me up! God bless.
  • Praise God for helping us realize that we can not continue to allow the enemy to poison our spirits by what we justify. We must completely separate ourselves from any and everything that is not like Christ.
