The Christian Action Council Education and Ministries Fund, which is today known as Care Net, asked President Ronald
Reagan to create a special day to focus on the intrinsic value of human life and the fundamental right to life, as recognized by the American Founding Fathers. In 1983, President Reagan issued a proclamation establishing a National Sanctity of Human Life Sunday (SOHLS). Since 1983, the SOHLS proclamation has also been issued by Presidents George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush. The National Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is held on the 3rd Sunday in January, the Sunday proceeding the day on which the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions were handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 22, 1973.

Abortion is the leading cause of death in the African-American community. It surpasses heart disease, cancer, accidents, violent crimes, and AIDS.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, black women are more than 5 times as likely as white women to have an abortion.
On average, 1,876 black babies are aborted every day in the United States
Minority women constitute only about 13% of the female population (age15-44) in the United States, but they underwent approximately 36% of the abortions.
One in four babies die by choice (Physicians for Life)
At current rates, 1 in 3 American women will have and abortion by age 45 (Guttmacher Institute)
In a study of post-abortion patients only 8 weeks after their abortion, researchers found that 44% complained of nervous disorders, 36% had experienced sleep disturbances, and 31% had regrets about their decision.
If you or someone you know is considering abortion, I hope they (you) reconsider. It is a decision that has spiritual, physical, and mental consequences. God loves us and has purpose for our lives and the lives of the unborn, no matter the circumstances in which they are born. The Bible states, “The Lord hath called me from the womb: from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.” Isaiah 49:1 KJV. For those who have had an abortion–God forgives!
